Being a member of BioForward keeps us informed of the developing life science industry in Wisconsin and allows us to participate in the many professional education and development programs they offer. The networking events are a great way to connect with other like-minded professionals.
What are the key areas of or achievements by your organization that are impacting the state of Wisconsin and the overall biohealth industry?
Our advocacy service guides patients to high-quality, high-value healthcare. This helps create a competitive healthcare market where price is a consideration. Our efforts have been instrumental in reducing the average cost of hip and knee replacements by over $10,000 in three Wisconsin markets. We are developing predictive analytics models that can identify those employees at risk for a catastrophic event in the next two years with 82% accuracy.
What about the future of research, medical, technological innovation excites you the most?
If we can identify those patients at greatest risk, we can facilitate the behavior changes that can reduce the clinical risk and improve the patient’s quality of life.
Why Wisconsin? What does Wisconsin (and/or Madison/Milwaukee) offer for your company and/or your/its families?
The state of Wisconsin provides a well-educated workforce with a Midwestern work ethic and the sense that helping others is also helping yourself.
What would you recommend about or say to others about Wisconsin’s biohealth industry and research institutions?
Wisconsin is not yet a leader in commercializing medical products, but we are building that expertise. We have access to outstanding research and good ideas. Individuals in this industry are great at identifying opportunities and are mindful enough to access the resources necessary for commercialization.
What is one thing others may not know about your organization?
We are first and foremost a data analytics company. We understand healthcare data and how to structure it and interpret it. Our business model was originally designed so that everyone could work and collaborate remotely, and we have intentionally hired people around the state (Milwaukee, Madison, Eau Claire, La Crosse, Appleton) to prove this can be done.
