Wisconsin Biohealth Tech Hub Timeline

Explore the origins and evolution of the Wisconsin Biohealth Tech Hub, a cornerstone in enhancing the state’s role in the global technology landscape.

Establishment, Growth, and Milestones

Launched under the EDA Tech Hubs Program from the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022, the Wisconsin Biohealth Tech Hub aims to solidify the U.S.'s stance in key technology areas, fostering economic and national security. Wisconsin was chosen due to its burgeoning biohealth sector which, by 2021, had significantly impacted the state's economy with a 10.6% growth rate from 2018 to 2021, contributing $32 billion annually.

The journey began with the EDA's Notice of Funding Opportunity in May 2023, followed by Wisconsin's application for the Phase 1 Tech Hub designation in August 2023. Official recognition was granted in October 2023, with subsequent submission of the Phase 2 funding application in early 2024.
