Wisconsin AFL-CIO President Stephanie Bloomingdale released the following statement:

Wisconsin has been designated a BioHealth Tech hub by the Biden-Harris Administration. The designation brings an award of $49 million in federal funding to support the state’s biohealth sector. This transformational investment in Wisconsin will support innovation in health care while creating new family-supporting jobs.

The Wisconsin AFL-CIO was part of the state’s successful application process. The funding includes a commitment to ensuring prevailing wages for construction related to the project and adherence to the Department of Labor’s good jobs principles.  It will be a catalytic multiplier for additional tech innovation and jobs in Wisconsin.

Our selection in this competitive national award process reflects our state’s long-standing leadership in innovation and manufacturing expertise. It positions Wisconsin’s workers to be major players in an important emerging industry.
