MADISON (WKOW) — Wisconsin’s tech hub was awarded $49 million in federal funding Tuesday.

The funding from the U.S. Economic Development Administration will help grow the state’s personalized medicine and biohealth sector.

The University of Wisconsin–Madison is one of 18 members of the Biohealth Tech Hub consortium.

A spokesperson for the university, Robyn M. Perrin, said, “The effect on the state is expected to be significant. Consortium members estimate that Phase 2 initiatives will directly create up to 30,000 new jobs, with an additional 111,000 indirect jobs.”
